Influence of the stochastically cooled beam on the experimental conditions at internal target facilities

Abstract

Measurements of the production of mesons in the proton-proton collisions close to the reaction threshold requires a beam with small emittance and well defined momentum. The utilization of a stochastically cooled beam and internal cluster target facilities improves the quality of such experiments due to the small momentum and geometrical spread of the beam and negligible secondary scattering of the reaction products within the target volume. Results of measurements performed with the stochastically cooled proton beam of COSY at the COSY-11 internal beam facility are presented.
