COSY-11 has finished its measurement program, data analysis is going on.

Experiment description

• COSY-11 is an internal experiment at the cooler synchroton and storage ring COSY Jülich. It has been designed for the measurement of meson production reactions of the type p p -> p p X where the first two 'p's are beam and target proton and the reaction products are the two protons plus one or more created mesons.
• COSY-11 is especially designed for so-called 'threshold' experiments. In these experiments the energy in the 'input channel' (momenta and masses of beam and target proton) is sufficient to create the wanted configuration in the 'output channel' (two protons plus additional particle(s)) with minimum relative kinetic energy.
• COSY-11 uses an internal cluster target to provide target particles for the circulating beam and a regular COSY dipole to separate the reaction products from the beam. These are measured in drift chambers, silicon pad detectors, and scintillation counters.

Awards

• On 20-April-2005 Prof. Walter Oelert was appointed as Foreign Member of the Polish Academy of Arts and Sciences.
• On 10-October-2001 the Cross of Merit, 1st class of the Order of Merit bestowed by the Federal Republic of Germany has been presented to Prof. Lucjan Jarczyk and Prof. Adam Strzalkowski.
• On 8-December-2000 the Minerva-Award of the "Förderverein Kulturhaus Jülich" has been presented to Prof. Lucian Jarczyk
• On 1-December-1999 the then polish prime minister Jerzy Karol Buzek awarded Pawel Moskal for his distinguished dissertation.
• The 'Medal Merentibus' (medal of merit) of the Jagiellonian University Kraków, Poland has been awarded to Walter Oelert for his scientific successes on the occasion of the 10th anniversary of polish-german collaboration at COSY on the 25th of September 1999.
